About Us
Formerly everyone’s favorite ‘Living Room Jamband’, several years ago Pathetic Honey’s dedicated and growing following forced them out into the public. They have been playing extensively on the Peninsula and in San Francisco ever since, gathering new fans and friends at every show.
The band selects from both acoustic and electric instruments, often blending the two in an irresistible mix of creative and impressive song craft, inventive musical exploration, good time rock-n-roll, folk-rock, bluegrass and more. Pathetic Honey’s music reflects the Bay Area music scene of years gone by…the psychedelic rock and folk rock music of yesterday’s San Francisco echo in the sounds of their unique style. Seeing this band live is a sensory experience of rhythms, grooves and the mood you bring, in addition to being a highly satisfying treat for your ears. There’s always a warm feeling at a Honey show, reminiscent of the numerous house parties from which they were spawned; only now there’s a lot more dancing!
Strong vocals and harmonies combine with electric and acoustic guitars and basses, mandolins and drums to unify the styles of Pathetic Honey’s influences, which come from a broad range of genres. The Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Zero and The Band are just a small sampling of this band’s musical diet.
Come out and see what all the ‘buzz’ is about!!!!
Pathetic Honey
Your
Favorite Flavor of Homegrown Jam!
Dan Newitt (Vocals, Guitars, Dobro)
From his countless solo performances to ensemble work
ranging in genre from Bluegrass to Punk (including the
requisite lengthy list of Rock bands), Dan’s performing
experience is broad and extensive. His powerful voice and
transcendent guitar work are the cornerstone of the Honey
sound and structure. Expertly composing many of our
original songs, heavily influencing all the others, his
passion is contagious.
David Barrow (Vocals, Guitars, Ukulele)
Singer, songwriter and free-wheeling lyricist, David’s raw
energy and gifted guitar playing bring a vibrant playful
energy to the mix. Bay Area born and bred, his music is
primarily influenced by classic rock, in that exclusively
San Francisco way. Listen carefully, as his lyrics can
change with each show and mood!
Greg
Lauer (Vocals,
Mandolins)
Electrical Engineer by day, unstoppable musician by night,
Greg’s mathematical brain solves the rhythm and groove
equation. Greg’s bluegrass and psychedelic rock influences
make him the perfect mandolin player for this
improv-rock-jamband.
Kevin Kelsey (Basses)
First on stage at the age of 13, Kevin can hardly remember
a time before he was a bass player. Originally immersed in
Jazz and Gospel, bored with his subsequent Rock and Roll
phase, Kevin had mostly been playing in more creative
bands, exploring new genres, and following the Grateful
Dead. He founded Pathetic Honey with David and Greg circa
1995.
Karl
Jesse (Drums,
Percussion)
Karl’s excellent musical ear and creative mind combine with
his extensive experience to form the consummate jamband
drummer. Karl’s skill allows him to flow like a liquid
while holding rhythm like a metronome. The backbone of the
band, he holds strong even in the most obscure adventures
of our musical exploration.
